What is the difference between “excused and unexcused” absences?

Generally an excused absence is one in which there is a physicians note, a prearranged absence approved by the school or an absence that is within the school’s allowance of parent notes/phone calls.

An unexcused absence is usually defined as an absence where a child has used all of their phone calls/parent notes and continues to miss school without a physician’s note or absences that are not explained.
