Delaware Arts Festival provides $1,000 grant for ESC students to study glass art
The ESC Arts Academy received a $1,000 grant from the Delaware Arts Festival for their commitment to art education and providing students with opportunities to experience a variety of artistic mediums.
Arts Academy Art Teacher Kim Roberts sent in an application to the Festival’s Grant Committee describing a unique glass unit she would allocate the money to fund.
“This is the fourth year the Arts Academy has been chosen for this grant and, yet again, Kim Roberts sent in a impressive application explaining how the Arts Academy will use the money for a special project for the students,” said Mary Ellen Kelly, Chair of Grants Committee for the Delaware Arts Festival.
The Arts Academy used the grant money to take the students on a field trip to Glass Axis, a non-profit glass art facility in Grandview. The students made witch ball ornaments using the glass blowing technique. The rest of the money will be used to purchase materials for students to create a stained glass piece.
“The students like glass and respond well to hands-on projects,” Kim Roberts said. “With this money we are able to teach the students how to work with both hot and cold glass.”
Kelly paid a visit to the Arts Academy in September to present the generous check and to spend time with the teachers and students. The students and staff prepared desserts for the special visit and showed Kelly around the school.
